I’ve been put in charge of making the banners that will be above any given brand’s entire line of products (those that we stock anyways) for the launch of a new site design. The current site design is okay, but the new one is way better. Anyways, it’s kind of fun, here are some samples (click on em if you want to see the bigger version):

For these banners I start with a 700 x 175 pixel canvas in photoshop, pick out and re-size the manufacturer’s logo that I want from either their website, our supplier’s library of clip art, or just the internet, and then go to town. I don’t really have any templates that I’ve been following, I just kind of make it up as I go. For the most part I’m satisfied, although I think the Baker one kind of sucks.

This is a fact: my job is sick.

I work for GoSkate, which is obviously a skateboarding website. We’re an online retailer, not a blog or some other sort of ad-revenue based site, so a big part of what I do is helping parents who are buying things for their kids know what trucks fit what size board, why they need risers on the complete they’re building, why not to buy stickies if their kid rides mostly street, stuff like that.

My hours are pretty flexible, so for right now I have it set up as 12pm-8pm, which means I get a solid couple hours of laps at JHMR before work every day if I want to. So sweet.

My manager, who is the owner of the site, has his Doctorate in Medicine. He’s in his early 30s, and is finishing up his residency in Detroit at the moment. Already. What’s crazy is, over the phone (only way I’ve met him so far) he sounds like he’s 25 or something. Hell of a juxtaposition, these two parts of his life, but I think he balances it well.

I don’t know exactly where I’m going with this post, I just wanted to let you all know that I’m not going to die a vagabond on the streets of a remote Western Wyoming town. I do have a job that pays pretty decently and is in almost every way awesome.

Thanks,

David
